Chelsea, Arsenal And Villa Join Race For Scottish Left-Back
Andrew Robertson has impressed everyone with his consistent performances for Hull City in the English top flight this season.
According to the Daily Star, the young Scottish left-back has attracted interest from many Premier League clubs including champions Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa.
Robertson made his professional debut in 2012-13 for Queen’s Park FC in Scotland and was very impressive; netting two goals in the process. He was later signed by Hull City and continued to impress everyone with his flawless performances. After Hull City’s failure to retain Premier League status, it looks like a lot of clubs are eyeing the young defender. He caught everyone’s eyes after his goal and impressive display against England in an international friendly in November 2014. The former Dundee United youngster is very solid at the back and poses a sizeable threat in attack. A young prodigy has the potential to rise to the likes of legends like Patrice Evra and Ashley Cole if moulded in the right way.
Arsenal already have Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs as options at left-back but the latter seems to have fallen out of favour with Arsene Wenger towards the end of the season. Moreover, with Monreal being pursued by La Liga clubs like Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, Wenger could be looking at Robertson as a replacement for either of the duo.
Chelsea have also reportedly joined the race for the left back’s signature with first class players Cesar Azpilicueta and Filipe Luis fighting it out for the starting position. Reports have started to surface that either one could be leaving for La Liga with multiple clubs interested in both the players. Robertson could again be a cheap and viable replacement for either of the two.
Aston Villa are desperately looking to reinforce their back four after the disappointing FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal and are in the market for some good, young defenders like Robertson.
And after Hull’s relegation to the Championship, everyone is expecting Robertson to move to a Premier League club and it will be no surprise if he bags an eye-popping deal at a top club.
