Cech’s Departure Imminent – Three Possible Replacements We Might Be Looking At!

The inevitable is near. We have already heard the following statement from our goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon:

“I think Cech still has three or four excellent seasons in him. His family likes England. And a player is happy when his family is happy. He wants to stay in England, but I don’t know where are the discussions. The Premier League is his primary objective.

But it will also depends on the conditions. The advantage is that Arsenal is a top club, with a philosophy that pleases him and that is at London. It is a base for consideration.”

So, there you have it!

We already knew that Petr Cech would most probably move away from the Bridge this summer, but after realizing that Arsenal might be the likelier destination for our goalkeeping legend, umm…I don’t know…this doesn’t feel right. All the banter, the fun and the goals we are used to scoring against them, having Petr Cech on the receiving end of all seems kinda weird!

But then again, Cech wants to stay in London where his family is happy. Tottenham is shite, Manchester United have their eyes set on Lloris probably and Arsenal are the only other club who are in for a goalkeeper in the market. Seems like Gooner it is then!

But, if Cech is leaving this summer we would need another keeper to challenge/backup Thibaut Courtois in the team. Right?

Jamal Blackman and Mitchell Beeney still aren’t good or experienced enough to take on that role in the absence of Courtois, so we need someone with aforementioned characteristics for next season alongside the Belgian.

Chelsea scouts meanwhile realize this situation and according to the Express:

“Begovic would be Chelsea’s first choice option, valued at £10.5m with one year left on his contract at the Britannia.

Norwich rejected a £5m bid from Stamford Bridge for Ruddy in 2013 but they could move for him again this summer.

Green is another target, having been relegated with QPR last season.”        (SOURCE – Express)

So, Express has been linking us with Begovic, Ruddy, and Green as a potential replacement to Cech.

Among these names, I think Rob Green is most likely to stay with QPR as the shot-stopper has already made a statement along the lines citing limited playing time as the reason for not considering a move to the Bridge. He is also the last man I want to see in the Blue shirt among those three names. If you watched QPR enough during the last season you would probably share my sentiments!

But then again the veteran is 35-years-old and at the twilight of his career. Perfect time to win some trophies along with a fat paycheck and everyone knows that’s not gonna happen at Loftus Road. Although, I still think the Englishman might not be the best option here!

John Ruddy is an interesting option. We allegedly made a bid for the Norwich star in Mourinho’s first season of his second stint. Norwich rejected our bid and we instead managed to get Mark Schwarzer as Cech’s backup. (although, that turned out alright!) What it means is that Mourinho rates the Norwich shot-stopper and would like to have him in his squad as a potential replacement to Cech.

The third option being thrown around here is Asmir Begovic. The 27-year-old has done pretty well for Stoke City this past season and although he would be my first choice to replace Cech at the Bridge, having John Ruddy as a backup to Courtois wouldn’t be a bad option either.

With Begovic being evaluated at close to 10 Million Pounds, John Ruddy might be the cheaper option here.

There’s also this case of regular playing time and Begovic might not want to sacrifice his starting role at the Brittania stadium to come sit on the bench here.

Although, the charm of trophies and money can change even the most stubborn of hearts and if Begovic does decide to consider our offer, I think he would be the best choice to replace our legend as the second choice keeper behind Courtois!

BTW, among these three names, whom would you prefer at Chelsea next season?
