The Premier League fixtures for the next season are out.
Premier League Champions, Chelsea have a tough task on their hands, if they are going to defend their title, with the likes of United, Arsenal and City looking to strengthen over the summer.
The Blues start their campaign with a home game against Swansea and end with a visit from Leicester, but neither are likely to be crucial in the grand scheme of the season. Here, let us take a look at 5 games that could prove pivotal in the season 2015/16.
August 15, 2015 – Manchester City (A)
Chelsea’s first away trip might as well be their toughest of the season with a game against a side, backed by the critics to challenge Chelsea for the title this season. Although it will just be the 2nd game of the season, but could set the tone with neither side happy to fall behind a rival.
Last season result: 1-1
September 19, 2015 – Arsenal (H)
Jose Mourinho and Chelsea have a solid record against the Gunners, with Arsene Wenger yet to record a win against the Special one. This fixture is notable as it will take place after the first Champions League group game of the season, but will be Chelsea’s toughest post-Europe test in the group stages.
The other fixtures to come after a Champions League game will be Southampton (H), West Ham (A), Stoke (A), Tottenham (A) and Leicester (A).
Last Season Result: 2-0
September 26, 2015 – Newcastle United (A)
Jose Mourinho is yet to record a win at St. James’ Park in 5 visits spanning over to spells as the boss; and has lost on the last two occasions comprehensively. Having said that, you can be sure that he would be raring to end this wretched run with a thumping win over the Geordies.
Last Season Result: 2-1
December 28, 2015 – Manchester United (A)
Chelsea’s Christmas fixture list is very benign, and considering it is one of the busiest times in the English domestic calendar, Jose will be quiet confident of putting together a decent run. Last Season Result: 1-1
April 16, 2015 – Manchester City (H)
