Mourinho Wants to Hug The FA Panel For Not Considering Him as Manager of The Month Even Once Through The Season
Contrary to what most would have expected, Nigel Pearson was named the Premier League Manager of the Month for April. Or should we say, Jose Mourinho DID NOT win the Premier League Manager of the Month for April. Neither did he win in March nor in February nor any other month.
In fact, the ‘Special One’ hasn’t won the award for the entirety of this season. One might say the coincidence is uncanny, but the last time a Manager won the league without winning the award even once, was also Jose Mourinho in the 2005-06 season. You lose just two matches in the whole season; stay top of the league from start to end; make the most competitive league in the world look like a one-horse race and win the title in style. What more should you do to be the Manager of the Month??
Even The Special One was intrigued by this and had this to say:
“For many months no defeats, only victories but I can do nothing, I can just enjoy my title, which is the most important thing. My objective for the season is to be champion, and what comes comes and what doesn’t come doesn’t come. I prefer not to comment, but I would like to know the people in the panel. Who are they because maybe someday I meet somebody and I want to hug him.”
Well, he certainly has a point. Chelsea is the only undefeated team this season at home with 14 wins out of 17. As far as the away form is concerned, Chelsea has 37 points of a possible 51, which is the best in the league. The Blues have scored 37 away goals, again the highest in the league. So much for boring boring Chelsea, eh? Moreover, the team has also kept 17 clean sheets, which also leads to a goal difference of 42, which is more than any other team in the division. The team hasn’t lost a single match since January the first.
In April, Chelsea managed 13 points off a possible 15, one more than Nigel Pearson’s Leicester. In February, Tony Pulis’ West Brom picked up 8 points off 12, just one more than Chelsea, who had 7 off 9. Similarly in November, Newcastle managed 3 wins and a loss, which is lesser than 3 wins and a draw for Chelsea. In August, Garry Monk won 3 out of 3 games, same as Jose but again Jose was conveniently ignored in each of the above cases.
One must certainly wonder what Jose must do to win the manager of the month award. But then we have won the league fair and square, so at the end of the day who cares, right? Though we can wonder how exactly will Jose “hug” the members of the panel, when he meets them!
