The Champions Chelsea will host Sunderland in the their last match of the season 2014-15 at home on Sunday.
As Chelsea fans get ready for the trophy lifting ceremony, Sunderland are content after after their goalless draw against Arsenal yesterday. Thus, the match is inconsequential in the terms of final positions.
TEAM NEWS, INJURY UPDATES AND SUSPENSIONS
Midfielder Cesc Fabregas is suspended after his sending off against West Brom. Diego Costa will be involved again but Jose Mourinho is not sure whether Eden Hazard will play, who missed Friday’s training after undergoing a dental surgery for the removal of his wisdom tooth.
Jose Mourinho confirmed that Petr Cech will play some part on Sunday, but is not sure he will start, after a neck injury.
Mourinho also said there may be opportunities for youngsters like Jeremie Boga and Andreas Christensen against Sunderland, while Zouma, Oscar and Ramires remain unavailable.
Seb Larsson, Jordi Gomez, Ricardo Alvarez and Wes Brown are out with knee injuries. Bridcutt is out with an ankle injury.
Chelsea, who have been nowhere near their lethal best after being crowned champions mathematically, will probably be in a party mood on Sunday. Diego Costa will lead the line as expected and with Eden Hazard probably out, Jeremie Boga may start on the left wing.
Willian may play in the number 10 position with Remy on the right. Matic and Loftus-Cheek are expected to patrol the central midfield, while Terry, Christensen, Luis and Ivanovic will be the back four. Petr Cech may start in the post.
Sunderland, who have been involved in a relegation brawl, made sure of their safety with a draw at the Emirates on Wednesday, but will try to spoil Chelsea’s party atmosphere at the Bridge. They will line up in a 4-1-4-1, with Danny Graham leading the attack. Connor Wickham will play just off the striker with Seb Larsson in support.
Adam Johnson and Jermain Defoe will play on both flanks while Lee Cattermole will play in a holding role, screening the defense which will comprise Billy Jones, Sebastian Coates, John O’Shea and former Chelsea player Patrick Van Aanholt. Costel Pantilimon will guard the posts.
KEY PLAYER BATTLES
Filipe Luis vs Adam Johnson
Winger Adam Johnson, who was handed against Arsenal was impressive, and will try to keep his form against the Blues. Filipe Luis will have to work hard to keep him under control on the left, or else he might hurt Chelsea.
Diego Costa vs John O’Shea
Costa, who was involved in a fiery brawl with Olsson last week, will be at it again, getting on the nerves of the former United defender, and O’Shea might have a lot to deal with.
