Chelsea’s Technical Director Deserves More Praise For His Contributions To The Titles

Chelsea’s technical director Michael Emenalo has had bad times in the past as he was blamed for the Rafa debacle.

However, Roman’s immense trust in Chelsea’s Sporting Technical Director Emenalo is finally paying off. Roman largely relies on the advice of those in senior positions and hence Emenalo received a lot of flak for the sacking of Di Matteo and appointing Benitez.

But doesn’t he deserve better recognition now that Chelsea are doing well?

“Emenalo cannot be excluded from the stories of success at Chelsea Football Club and when the names of big Africans who made Chelsea successful are being mentioned – the likes of Drogba, Essien, Kalou and even guys like Celestine Babayaro before him, we must not forget to praise Michael Emenalo”

“In this day and age when managers are hired and fired, where managers come into clubs and say they don’t want to work with this sporting director or the other, Emenalo has weathered them all, working successfully with some of the greatest names in world football who have gone to manage Chelsea”, making reference to the likes of Ancelotti, Villas-Boas, Di Matteo, Benitez and now Jose Mourinho.

When you see our Youth team, Women’s team and Senior Men’s team doing exceptionally well, you realize that due credit must go to the technical director. Tunde Adelakun, who also heads a body known as Africans Abroad Recognized urged Africans to adopt achievers like Emenalo as role models.

“We celebrate him and think we can accord him the respect he deserves so we will be able to tap into his wealth of knowledge, exposure and experience to grow the game in Africa.”

Emenalo has represented Nigeria as a Central Defender in the 1994 World Cup and has also won an African Cup Of Nations. As a central defender, he helped Nigeria to an all-time best 5th position in the FIFA Rankings. He has also worked as an Assistant First Team Coach and has headed the scouts. He, thus, has ample experience to head the scouting and academy programs which is one of his responsibilities.

He has also helped Chelsea cope well with the Financial Fair Play with his brilliant scouting and transfers. The academy is producing great talents, and our scouting unit is among the best in Europe now. He offered to resign amid speculation of Mourinho’s return, but his request was turned down and Mourinho insisted that he would be pleased to work with him which clearly shows that he has Mourinho’s trust. We, as fans, would always want to see both of them together and lead Chelsea to more number of titles in the coming seasons.
