After clinching the title against Crystal Palace, Chelsea will now face Liverpool in a Super Sunday Clash on May 10 at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea already have the title in hand, while Liverpool are striving hard to get a Champions League spot. Hence, this will not be an easy game for the Blues.
Despite winning the title 3 games prior to the end of the season, Jose has shown desire to snatch all 3 points against Liverpool and to get that he is going to deploy his strongest possible lineup. With Oscar, Ramires and Costa out for the rest of the season, this is how Chelsea’s lineup may look against Liverpool.
Goalkeeper – Petr Cech
Thibaut has replaced Cech in Jose’s pecking order and now it’s almost confirmed and very much understandable that Cech is going to leave Chelsea. Since these are the last 3 fixtures of the season, Cech might feature in all of them.
Defense – Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry, Kurt Zouma, Filipe Luis
Jose has confirmed Ivanovic and Terry are definitely going to start this game and that’s mainly because of their impressive form this season. While other defenders from the Chelsea dugout need some playing time too, Zouma and Filipe are the players who might start for the Blues as they deserve it more than anyone. Zouma has got a decent amount of opportunities to prove himself and he has done a pretty good job in all of those. Filipe Luis has been a great backup for Azpilicueta throughout the season and he will be a great asset in this game too.
Midfield – Nemanja Matic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Juan Cuadrado, Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard
When you are playing against a team like Liverpool, you obviously need a player like Matic to keep Henderson and Coutinho under control. While Hazard and Fabregas are starting because they have been the most important players for Chelsea during this campaign and the blues are going to need them against Liverpool too. Juan Cuadrado hasn’t got a sufficient amount of playing time since his arrival and this is the perfect occasion for Jose to pick him, and for Cuadrado to display his abilities in front of Jose. Loftus-Cheek is maybe the most unexpected entry in this list, but he might start since Jose has immense faith in him and these games are the best occasions for the golden boy to get some playing time.
Attack – Loic Remy
With Diego Costa out for the rest of the season and Drogba worn out after starting 4 consecutive games, chances of Loic to start this game are very high. Loic Remy has scored some important goals against some big teams this season and we can expect a goal or two from him in this game as well.
