Seems like the transfer season is already in full flow at Chelsea.
Just days after completing the signing of the “Brazilian Wonderkid”, Nathan Allen De Souza, we are reportedly in for another young and talented Brazilian forward/AM, namely, Robert Kenedy.
For most of the Chelsea fans here who are relatively unaware of this “new talent”: The kid currently plies his trade at the Brazilian club, Fluminense. He has notched up 5 goals in 36 appearances so far. (Although, most of them have been as a substitute.)
Similar to Nathan, the young forward made his way through the Brazilian national youth set-up and burst into the scene in 2013 with some brilliant performances in the U-17 World Cup where he racked up 6 goals!
Spotted by Fluminense at a young age, he made his way through the club’s youth ranks and a good World Cup performance ensured he got a shot at the top level of football in Brazil.
Fluminese’s youth director Marcelo Teixeria even had some kind words to say for the Brazilian in 2013:
“He has always performed well for our youth teams and his progress has allowed us to put our faith in him.”
After racking up considerable starts and substitute appearances at his native club, the young star made his way to Brazil’s U-20 side where he has scored 1 goal in 7 appearances so far.
Although, the recent increase in the hype surrounding the forward has already worked up his price tag. According to sources at Sky Sport, Fluminense are reportedly demanding somewhere around 5M pounds for the services of the young Striker.
Not bad considering the inflated market these days, eh? Although, if we do get him, he definitely won’t feature for the Blues in the near future and would probably go on loan to some European club till he develops enough to be considered for the first team in few seasons. If not, we could always sell him for a hefty profit!
As long as we are in for his services, let’s take a look at his playing style and how he fits in at Chelsea:
Kenedy started his career as a right winger and instantly drew comparisons to the likes of Neymar and Hulk. Blessed with lightning pace and a very impressive left foot, his main strength is to cut inside from the wings causing trouble to the opposition fullbacks. Chelsea are currently in need of a left footed winger who can do the job on the right flank and Kenedy seems to be able to tick that box but after some good years.
Although, it’s next to impossible we would see him in the Blue shirt next season. The work permit issues and his relative inexperience at the top flight means a loan is definitely on the cards. Perhaps Vitesse?
Besides, Kenedy is also fond of a move to Stamford Bridge. According to him:
“Of course, I am happy to play for Fluminense but it is my ambition to one day play in Europe. I like Chelsea because of players like Oscar and Ramires. I like the whole team.”
Seems like there would be no problem of settling in if he does come to the Bridge in the future! So what do you all think about this transfer? For what it’s worth, he fits our profile. A young, talented Brazilian with a good World Cup under his belt! What more can you ask for? Right?
