If you are a Chelsea fan and haven’t been living under a rock for the last few years, you would have definitely heard about Patrick Bamford!
The 21-year-old forward, who was chosen as the Championship player of the year last week, for his immense contribution (and with that I mean a butt-load of goals!) at Middlesbrough is in the news again! No, this time it’s not for the goals that he has been racking up like crazy, but, it’s about the contract talks and his future with the Blues.
Let me ask you this, what would you do as a club if you have a loanee scoring 19 goals a season (still counting!) and absolutely owning the Championship singlehandedly, but, just has a year left on his contract? Well, offering him a new and improved deal seems like a sensible idea, so that you can tie him up for a long, long time, right?
Well, that’s exactly what Chelsea is trying to do here. According to the sources, at Mirror, a new deal is already on the table for the Englishman that would see him tied to the club for the next 5 years.
Although, Bamford has spoken of his love for Chelsea many times, he seems to be in no hurry to put the pen on paper just now. As per Bamford:
“I have to concentrate on these last few games and hope that Boro as a team go up and we can push into the Premier League.
After that I’m concentrating on the Euros (2015 Under-21 European Championships) with England so I think by the time I’m back from the Euros I can sit down with Chelsea and see what’s happening.
There is a chance I could play against Boro next season but it’s open ended and I won’t really find out until July.”
Fair enough! Mourinho has spoken of the situation previously and he thinks securing promotion for Middlesbrough should be the top priority for the loanee.
Right now, it’s still unclear whether Bamford would be joining our squad next season or will it be another loan in the Premier League. Lots have been talked about on this matter anyway and I would rather not dwell on this again.
Securing Bamford’s long term future at the Bridge is the top priority right now and as a club, we should concentrate on that matter first. Although, it would be extra sweet if he battles it out with Loic Remy for the second Striker spot next season!
