Why Chelsea Deserve To Be Champions Of England!
Another enthralling season of Premier League has reached its twilight and this time its Chelsea, the team that is on top with a comprehensive margin.
Many expected the league to be much more difficult than what it is now, but Chelsea were really exceptional. Despite a few ups and downs, they were able to maintain their excellent run for the entire season and stay on top of the table.
Here are the major reasons why Chelsea deserve to win the league more than any other team:
After the arrival of Jose Mourinho in 2013 it was quite obvious that many alterations would be made to the squad. This Chelsea squad was ‘under construction’ for the entire 2013-2014 season and 2014 summer window as well. Many players went out, and many came in. One of the most important transfers was made in January 2014 by buying Nemanja Matic from SL Benfica. While other fruitful transfers were Costa and Luis from Atletico Madrid, Fabregas from Barcelona and Loic Remy from QPR. Fabregas and Costa have been the backbone of Chelsea’s attack while Remy has proved to be a top class backup for Costa. Drogba also came back to Chelsea and has been very important on many occasions. Zouma was also added to the squad in August 2014, but he was bought for more of a sporadic role.
Some players were also sold; players who could not match Jose’s style of play. The most shocking departures were those of two-time Chelsea Player Of The Year Juan Mata, David Luiz, and club legend Frank Lampard. Later, in the 2015 January window, World Cup winner Andre Schurrle was sold to Wolfsburg. Mohammed Salah was loaned to Fiorentina with Columbian winger Juan Cuadrado moving in the opposite direction as a replacement for the unsatisfying Schurrle.
Perfectly Balanced Squad
After almost a year of transition, Chelsea’s squad was finally ready to achieve greater heights. Players like Eden Hazard, Oscar, and Willian became one of the best players in the league and Europe while players like Fabregas and Matic took Chelsea to a whole new level with revamped tactics. Costa added the firepower while the defense was blessed with the likes of some world class, experienced players such as Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, and Azpilicueta. Chelsea has two world class keepers, the legend Petr Cech, and one of the best young keepers in the world today, Thibaut Courtois.
This squad also has good backups for each and every position with players such as Kurt Zouma, Juan Cuadrado, Filipe Luis and some young guns such as Nathan Ake, Andreas Christensen, Ruben-Loftus Cheek, etc.
Total Dominance & Champion Instincts
Mourinho’s men commenced the season with a bang, and they managed to maintain their extravagant feat until the business end of the season. Chelsea have now spent more than 260 days on the top of the Premier League table, and they are on a verge of breaking a new English record. But they did slip and were about to go down, and that was in the month of January.
The bad patch started after the draw against Southampton due to which Man City took the advantage. The next big blow was against Spurs on the very first day of 2015 where they lost 5-3 at White Hart Lane. Chelsea and City were neck and neck on points but somehow Chelsea regained their form again and dominated the league by taking the advantage of City’s defeats.
Jose Mourinho Effect
Before Jose’s arrival, Chelsea played with a different mindset on the field and they were often called an underachieving squad. But after Jose’s arrival, Chelsea were a different team who challenged for both the Champions League and the Premier League with an incomplete or a transitioning squad. Chelsea’s changed mentality and better instincts were clearly displayed during some occasions like against Manchester City at the Etihad and against Liverpool at Anfield.
Once the 2014-2015 season started, Chelsea had already become the best team in the Premier League, and it became very difficult for the opposition to perform well against Chelsea. The main reason behind this was Jose Mourinho and his master class tactics; it was inevitable that Jose would take almost one season to turn a vulnerable squad into champions, and he did it like a BOSS!
