Terry, Ramires or Willian? Chelsea’s Best Players against Leicester City Analyzed
After last night’s convincing victory, Chelsea look all set to seal their 5th league title with a win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The occasion seems ideal given that the Blues play at Stamford Bridge in the 35th round of Premier League fixtures. Being crowned champions in front of the Chelsea faithful seems to be destined for Jose Mourinho’s men.
Last night’s fixture was at the King Power Stadium against Leicester City and the game ended 1-3 in Chelsea’s favor in what was an utterly exciting game. Chelsea showed great character by coming back from a 1-0 deficit and scoring 3 second-half goals to snatch all three points.
The standout performers in the game were amongst of our old guard – John Terry, Didier Drogba, and Branislav Ivanovic while the other players were impressive as well.
Here are the ratings of Chelsea players based on their performances against Leicester City:
Petr Cech – 6.5/10
Cech conceded his first Premier League goal since March 2014 last night as he was beaten by Albrighton’s sublime finish in the last minute of the first half. He was decent in the entire game and also made 2 vital saves.
Branislav Ivanovic – 7.3/10
Ivanovic was very good last night as he assisted one goal to Drogba via a low driven cross. Defensively, he didn’t make a single error and also made many important clearances.
Gary Cahill – 6.7/10
Cahill was good too. His defensive partnership with Terry was brilliant as they both made endless blocks, clearances, and tackles.
John Terry – 8.0/10
Terry gave a solid performance last night; he played like a king in defense and also netted Chelsea’s second goal. He now holds the joint top position for most goals scored by a defender in the Premier League along with David Unsworth. He proved yet again why he is the best defender in England.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 6.0/10
Azpilicueta’s performance was average the entire time and his slip inside the box led to Albrighton’s goal.
Nemanja Matic – 6.5/10
Matic gave an average performance. Defensively, he was very sound but lacked quality in the passing department as none of his passes were threatening, and they didn’t create any chance.
Ramires – 8.2/10
Ramires was by far the most energetic player yesterday; his work rate was mesmerizing, and his presence was impactful in both attacking and defensive thirds. His exquisite strike from the edge of the box in the 83rd minute sealed Chelsea’s victory.
Willian – 8.5/10 (Best Player)
Willian was probably the best player & the unsung hero in the game. On paper, he was deployed on the right wing but as time passed by, he moved to a more central role. He gave a mouth watering performance and he was the major reason behind Chelsea’s lethal counter attacks.
Cesc Fabregas – 7.5/10
Numerically talking, Fabregas’ performance was amazing as he assisted one goal, created 4 chances and also completed 4 take-ons. He was sound defensively as well but had a poor first half.
Eden Hazard – 7.3/10
Hazard had a decent game, and he contributed in both attack and defense and also created some chances. His dribbles were flawless and overall he didn’t give a moment of peace to the Leicester defenders.
Didier Drogba – 6.8/10
Didier was unarguably the worst Chelsea player in the first half as he couldn’t get a single good touch inside Leicester’s box. All his shots were going astray. But he silenced the critics and haters in the second half as he netted the much-needed equalizer in the 48th minute.
Kurt Zouma – NA (84’)
Juan Cuadrado – NA (88’)
John Obi Mikel – NA (90’)
