It’s April and the start of the rumor mill is already in full swing. If rumours are to be believed, Branislav Ivanovic is linked with various top-flight clubs around Europe.
The Serbian international has been in a great form and is a valuable asset to the club. The full-back has been tidy at the back and has performed his defensive duties very well. Apart from his defense, he has contributed with his goals tally as well. Ivanovic has chipped in 4 goals and has also assisted 4.
The interest in the full back is quite obvious and the clubs that are interested to acquire his services are Bayern Munich, PSG and Real Madrid, as each of them are having problems in the right back spot. Bayern Munich undoubtedly has the best right back in the likes of Phillip Lahm. However Pep Guardiola is making him play as a midfielder or a defensive midfielder. So, its Rafinha who occupies the right back spot.
Branislav Ivanovic is surely a much better option than the Brazilian. The Serbian serves as an upgrade to Rafinha and Guardiola himself is a fan of Ivanovic’s style of play. Bild have claimed that the Bavarians are looking for a new defender to add to their ranks during the upcoming transfer window as Pep Guardiola continues to seek for an alternative to right-back Rafinha.
PSG, on the other hand, have Gregory Van Der Will and Serge Aurier as their right back options. As, Serge Aurier is on loan from Toulouse, Ivanovic serves as a much better option for PSG. It won’t be much of a surprise if they come up with an absurdly huge amount of cash to sign the Serbian. Also, in this FFP era, a good deal for a player is appreciated and you never know if Mourinho would let Ivanovic head to Paris. A good deal for a player may also mean another better signing for the Bridge.
The final suitors for the player seem to be Real Madrid. The right back spot has never been a really good position for them since Sergio Ramos has been shifted to the centre back spot. With Allard Arbeloa not getting any younger and Dani Carvajal, who isn’t sufficiently mature to occupy the spot, Real might like to add Branislav Ivanovic to their list. With Ivanovic’s dynamic performances it might be ‘Bernabeu calling’ and it’s not an unknown fact that rejecting Bernabeu wouldn’t be a smart option. Real Madrid is the destination that could tank or top Branislav Ivanovic’s already shining career.
With major interests from the top flights, a player’s performance might suffer a dip. However, Ivanovic’s dedication and concentration is not to be questioned. Also, with fifteen months left in his contract with the Blues and no contract in sight, the player may be shown the exit door. A good 15 to 20 million Euros might see Ivanovic leave the Bridge after seven successful years with Chelsea.
