We are at the business end of the season, and being one of the top clubs on the planet; we are been linked to virtually every big name players and wonder kids of the world.
But amidst that, what we are forgetting is, our academy has been producing some incredible talent as of late, and one such talent is the Dutch Midfielder/Defender Nathan Ake.
Ruben Loftus Cheek has been the talk of our academy for the past few months. Jose Mourinho has certainly taken some liking to the talented Midfielder and the fans have backed the hype surrounding the Englishman.
But Nathan Ake, who was touted as the one to make a breakthrough into the first team this season, after strings of impressive performances with the U-21 and the senior boys, has failed to do so.
The Dutch Midfielder had been training with the senior squad for past few months but failed to get any valuable playtime. His performance in the Cup games, where he did get some minutes, was impressive to say the least.
But, with Chelsea fighting on all fronts, and also a definite pressure on Mourinho to deliver silverwares this season; the Dutchman was sent on an emergency loan to Championship side Reading for one month to get some playing time.
Result? 2 Man Of The Match performances in the 5 starts!
If you forgot how talented and tactically flexible (can play as a CM, LB, CB) Nathan Ake was, he certainly made sure that everyone got the note this time around with some brilliant performances in the Championship.
Even the Reading manager Steve Clarke was quite impressed with the guy. Here’s what he had to say on Ake’s time at Reading:
“Chelsea have asked for Nathan back so he goes back to Chelsea. We thank them for allowing Nathan to come and I think everyone has seen in the five games that he has played that he’s a top player, and that he’s got a very bright future ahead of him.”

Well done Nathan! That’s what we expect from our loanees when we send them out on loan and Ake has certainly delivered what he was asked for!
There’s also an interesting fact that the initial term of the one-month loan was a “possible extension” but apparently Chelsea did not allow that option. Reason?
Ake was having a great time at Reading and a possible extension would have meant more game time and exposure to the youngster. But Chelsea decided against it.
Maybe because Mourinho is convinced of the abilities of the Dutchman and wants to give him a chance after the title is wrapped up? Also because 3 of our last 4 games are at Stamford Bridge and that could be a perfect opportunity for Mourinho to try out the likes of Ake and RLC, maybe even Christensen?
Well, only time will tell what’s going on in the Portuguese’s mind but first and foremost we need to wrap up the title. Premier League, here we come! And oh, we should make sure to collect 3 points at Emirates. The expressions on Wenger’s face and his post match rantings would be hilarious to watch!
