Chelsea are now temporarily 10 points clear at the top of the table to second-placed Arsenal, and the title is just within our grasp. Chelsea’s recent fixture was versus Manchester United at the Stamford Bridge ended 1-0 in Chelsea’s favor. Overall Chelsea’s performance was brilliant, but Man United gave a very tough fight as their attacks were lethal. The credit for this victory will certainly go to Chelsea’s top notch defense as they saved the day by making countless blocks, tackles, and clearances. Here’s a brief report of this impressive and important victory.
The first half was tactically pretty interesting as both teams were thriving to score early but it was Chelsea who managed to find the back of the net in the 38th minute. The Blues were decent in the first half especially in the midfield area. The way in which Chelsea midfielders turned defending into lethal counter attacks was fascinating to watch and the end products of those attacks were fruitful too. Chelsea’s defense was great, but it was United who could not make the best out of the given chances. Rooney’s miss in the early minutes was the best chance for the red devils.
Eden Hazard opened the scoring for the Blues in the 38th minute. The build up for the goal was very entertaining as it comprised of a physical battle between Terry and Falcao followed by a beautiful back heel from Oscar to set up Hazard who scored it past De Gea. Stand out performers from the first half were Hazard, Oscar, Drogba and Terry while other players were amazing too.
After taking the lead in the first half, the only job Chelsea had to do was maintain the lead and they did that very well. The defending part was utterly amazing as Mourinho’s men were deployed properly and they blocked countless shots and cleared many corners. One of the most mesmerizing blocks was made by Cahill to prevent Falcao’s clear shot on goal. Also Chelsea reacted very brilliantly to United’s pressing and United’s long balls were also dealt greatly by the big men inside the box.
Attack wise Chelsea were good as they created ample of chances to score goals despite being inferior in terms of possession; they also came close to scoring a goal once or twice. Especially when Drogba was on the run, and he passed the ball to Hazard, but unfortunately it struck the post. United’s master plan to deliver long balls to Fellaini also didn’t work out as Zouma had him under control the entire time. Stand out performers from the second half were Cahill, Terry, Ivanovic, Zouma, and Hazard.
Overall, it was a very good game, and Chelsea are now edging toward the title. Chelsea’s next game is against the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium that will probably be the title decider. Chelsea will be high on confidence at Emirates, and a win will go a long way in bringing the most coveted trophy back to Bridge.
