Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United – Player Ratings as Chelsea edge closer to win the Premier League title

It’s a big win which has bought many a smiles to the Blue brothers’ face. It is always great to beat United and a win in the crucial juncture of the season is even better.

With just 9 points needed out of the available 18 points Chelsea look favorites to win the Premier League. So, here are the player ratings for the last match:

GK: Thibaut Courtois-7.5/10

Thibaut had a really decent game and was not tested much as attacks from United were weak and inconsistent. So, a pretty decent game for the stopper but 7.5 points for the Belgian for keeping a clean sheet.

CB: John Terry- 6.5/10

Terry was good at the back but not the best of the performance from the captain. A better show was expected from Terry as we know how good he is. Also, he committed a cynical foul on Falcao during build up of Hazard’s goal which angered Mourinho during the post-match conference. Anyways, was good enough with Cahill at the back as the duo maintained pressure on the attackers all throughout the game.

CB: Gary Cahill-7/10

Not one of the testing games for Cahill but was clean and tight at the back. Cahill did an above average job keeping Falcao silent and did test his mettle. The major talking point in his defending was when he blocked Falcao’s close ranger. Was good at the back and didn’t allow Manchester United to equalize so 7 points for the defender.

RB: Branislav Ivanovic-5.5/10

The last match was a struggle for the right-back. Luke Shaw tested him a lot and caused problems for which he couldn’t match up. His slump continued as he got booked for tackling and his efforts minimized as the game progressed.

LB: Cesar Azpilicueta-7/10

Was the key link last time around. His strong duels against Mata and Fellaini were fantastic to watch and where a reason that Chelsea went on to win the match. Also, he was good in keeping Januzaj under his tabs and didn’t let him enter the box easily. So, 7 points for the defender.

CM: Kurt Zouma-7.5/10

Zouma was the surprise package of the night. He raised a few eyebrows on his selection over Willian and proved the critics wrong. Strong performance in the unconventional positon in which he was made to play and he does deserve the laurels.

CM: Nemanja Matic-6/10

Had just a decent outing, below par rather I would say. But was good in keeping away from the box and didn’t let a few attacks develop. However, we expect much better things from Matic.

CAM: Cesc Fabregas-6/10

Had an okay-ish performance in the first half and couldn’t make much of an impact. Did look toothless in chance creation and developing the attacks. However, a much improved Fabregas was noticed post the first half and I guess that Mourinho’s pep talk did have some positive effect on him so a cumulatively a six-point game for Fab.

LW: Eden Hazard-8/10

Had a brilliant game throughout and the goal was just icing on the cake. With his 13th goal of the season Hazard has proved his class and what an asset he has been to the club. The Belgian was great with his runs as always, yet we know he could have done much more.

RW: Oscar-6.5/10

Oscar did have a good match but still a larger avenue was open for him. He could have proved much more but I feel that beautiful back-heel assist might have done him a world of good and he could start his form afresh from now on.

ST: Didier Drogba-5/10

Drogba wasn’t great last match; yes he was better than the match against QPR. Yet, he lacked the spark and energy which you would expect from him. I know people will say he is aging and reaching twilight of his career but with a good track record against United a better performance was expected from the king. Also, as a fan of youth prodigies I would expect a Brown or Solanke starting so as to prove whether or not they are future ready.
