Bertrand Traore: A Future Star Or Just Another Loanee?
Chelsea Loanees impressing on their loan spells is not a new thing for us. Even this year, quite a few loaned players are having amazing spells at their respective clubs. One such starlet is Bertrand Traore.
Traore is currently playing for Vitesse Arnhem and has netted 9 goals in 24 league appearances so far for the Eredivisie giants. Also, he has been impressive in every aspect of the game and looks like a promising asset for the future. Let us now briefly analyze his playing style and try to predict and understand the odds of him being at Chelsea in the future.
Strengths, Weaknesses & Playing Style
Bertrand is very versatile forward who has played in various forward roles for various teams. For Chelsea’s youth team, he has played as a winger and a secondary striker, whereas he plays he plays on the right flank, as a second striker and a striker for Vitesse.
For a player to comfort himself in multiple positions, he also needs to have way too many strong attributes and Bertrand has all those. Since he is a forward, his major strength is his shooting and can find the back of the net from any distance. This season, out of his 9 goals, 3 have been scored from outside the 18 yard box. Also, he is a prolific dribbler and uses his physical strength, footwork, and agility to get past defenders. His passing is fruitful and accurate to the tee.
He has some weaknesses as well, and the noticeable ones are – he is caught offside very often and defensively he is not very sound. But these weaknesses are understandable given his young age, and since he is still a teenager, he can still work on these weaknesses and overcome them.
Talking about his playing style, Vitesse are a team who rely on individual performances of certain players in order to keep their game at the top level and Traore is one of those players. Vitesse make the wisest use of his versatility by playing him in different positions against different oppositions. The Burkina Faso international always finds a way to contribute to the team irrespective of the position he plays in.
He has netted 9 goals and crafted 3 assists in 24 Eredivisie games for Vitesse. He also creates more than 1 chance to score a goal in every game. He is also an amazing dribbler and makes more than 6 dribbles per game out of which more than 50% are successful. Despite having weak defensive attributes, he always finds a way to contribute defensively; but most of his defensive actions are to snatch the ball from the opposition and regain possession.
When played on the flanks, he usually cuts inside the box and creates a chance for his teammates or tries to score himself. As a striker, he plays in the classic number nine role. He is a target man, and his teammates try to find him by feeding him with long balls. While playing as a striker, he is also involved in the build-up play and also creates chances for others.
A Future Star Or Just Another Loanee?
Traore has all the skills required to be a great footballer and taking his young age into consideration, he still has a lot of room for development. So it is safe to say that he can be a star in the future. But it will not be an easy task for the lad to get regular first team action at Stamford Bridge. And in order to become a regular, he needs to prove that he is better than the likes of Willian and Cuadrado. Since Bertrand is also a striker, he can also be used as a backup for Diego Costa or could play with him as a secondary striker in case there is a need for change in the formation.
It will be impossible for him to become a regular starter for Chelsea in the next season, but he might be loaned to a club better than Vitesse in a more competitive and tougher league than the Eredivisie.
