It was just a couple of days ago when we got kicked out of the Champions League and after plenty of mourning and frustration, I just got this to say:
“The same players, they have to go to the pitch on Sunday and give one more step to win the Premier League because if we win the Premier League and the Capital One Cup this season it’s still a fantastic season for us. So no time to cry. Move on and look forward.” – JOSE MOURINHO
That quite sums up my feeling! Champions League was the one trophy, I wanted us to win so badly, but I guess, it wasn’t meant to be, not this year at least. So, until next year then!
Meanwhile, as Mourinho said, we still have a PL to play for. 5 points clear, with a game in hand, and just one competition to look forward to. Nothing can stop us now, right? I certainly hope so!
With John Obi Mikel as the only known absentee from the squad, this is how the manager might line-up against the Saints at the Bridge on sunday:
GK – THIBAUT COURTOIS
Courtois is set to start yet again for the Blues tomorrow. Frankly, there wasn’t much the Belgian could have done to stop those two goals against PSG and his brilliant performances in the past few matches for us makes him a deserved candidate to start tomorrow.
CB – JOHN TERRY and KURT ZOUMA
Zouma has been brilliant whenever he has had the opportunity to start for us alongside Terry and as Mourinho has shown so far this season, he isn’t afraid to give the Frenchman a start, at least at Stamford Bridge he is not! Wouldn’t be surprised to see Cahill either, but Zouma looks more likely to pair with the Captain tomorrow.
LB – FILIPE LUIS
Time for Luis to make a start in the LB role. With the Saints expected to be on the bit of a defensive side tomorrow, Luis could do well with bombarding crosses from the left and help Eden Hazard on the attacking front as well.
RB – BRANISLAV IVANOVIC
No doubt the Serbian starts at the RB. It could be a very interesting match-up though, when he comes up against a very impressive Sadio Mane on the wings, who did give us quite a headache, the last time around.
CM – NEMANJA MATIC and CESC FABREGAS
Cesc Fabregas’ involvement has been limited in the past few games due to the opposition sides closing him down in the middle. It wouldn’t be easy when he comes up against the likes of Wanyama and Schneiderlin either. Matic would also have a job to contain the likes of Tadic in the middle and nullify the creativity of the Saints.
LW – EDEN HAZARD
Eden Hazard would have another opportunity to make a fool of the opposition fullback with his amazing trickery on the wings. He definitely starts tomorrow.
RW – WILLIAN
The Brazilian is set to start in the RW after Ramires was favored ahead of the Winger in the mid-week. He is expected to compliment Hazard on the opposite wings.
CAM – OSCAR
Before he was taken off at the half- time mark, the Brazilian looked pretty good against the PSG side. Here’s hoping he can continue that form against the likes of Schneiderlin and Wanyama.
STRIKER – DIEGO COSTA
This is a tough one. The Spaniard hasn’t been at his best for quite a long time now and this could be an opportunity for the likes of Loic Remy to start and make an impact up front. Still, I will go with Diego Costa, as the manager seems to trust the Spaniard with leading the line.
