Chelsea vs Paris Saint-Germain: Match Preview

Chelsea face PSG in the second leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. The first leg ended in a frustrating 1-1 draw in Paris after the Blues had opened the scoring. With home advantage on their side, Chelsea will be looking to seal a place in the last 8 of the competition.

Matic, who had conceded an ankle injury while celebrating the Capital One Cup victory, will be fit to face PSG on Wednesday. John Obi Mikel will miss out through a knee injury. As expected, Diego Costa will lead the line with Hazard and Willian operating on the flanks. It will be interesting to see if Jose Mourinho uses Fabregas or Oscar in the position behind the striker. Matic will play alongside Ramires if Fabregas plays in the number 10 position. The defense will be led by John Terry. Jose Mourinho will have to choose between Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma to partner Terry. Ivanovic and Azpilicueta will play as full-backs with Courtois manning the posts.

Lucas Moura will miss the match through a hip injury. Ibrahimovic will lead the attack, with Cavani and Lavezzi on either flank. The midfield will be occupied by Matuidi, Verratti and Thiago Motta. David Luiz and Thiago Silva will play in central defense while Maxwell and Van der Wiel will play at left-back and right-back respectively. Salvatore Sirigu will man the posts.

After the Capital One Cup victory, Chelsea came off a hard fought victory in a thrilling match against West Ham United at Upton Park. With no matches played after the 4th of March, Chelsea will be feeling refreshed and revitalized. With a commanding lead over Manchester City, that too with a game in hand, Chelsea will be able to concentrate fully on only the Champions League this week. Gary Cahill acknowledged that they have more time than usual to prepare for this match, and said Chelsea were going to play this match like a final.

PSG were in action against Lens on Friday, a match they won 4-1. With such a dominating victory, PSG will be confident of giving a good performance at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. PSG are second in the French league, just a point behind leaders Lyon, and still have a chance of winning the quadruple, being involved in the domestic cups as well. Laurent Blanc has stated that the match in London is going to be difficult, but they are confident of knocking Chelsea out of the competition.
