Paris-Saint Germain vs Chelsea: Match Preview
Chelsea travel to Paris for their first knockout match of the UEFA Champions League, as Jose Mourinho looks to win his first European trophy with Chelsea. The Blues face PSG again this year after they knocked PSG out in the quarterfinals last year.
PSG VS CHELSEA: TEAM NEWS, INJURY UPDATES AND SUSPENSIONS
Midfielder Oscar will undergo a late fitness test after he was down with a muscular injury while John Obi Mikel is out with a knee injury. Diego Costa will play his first match after the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool. Eden Hazard, who recently penned a new contract, will play along with Willian and Ramires in midfield. Fabregas will also make his comeback into the starting lineup after his injury. Zouma may be given the nod ahead of Cahill beside Terry to deal with the aerial prowess of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ivanovic and Azpilicueta will continue as full backs. Courtois may return after being rested against Everton.
PSG are going through an injury crisis as five players limped out their Ligue 1 match against Caen and ended the match with nine men. Yohan Cabaye, Matuidi, Lucas Moura, Marquinhos and Serge Aurier, were all injured against Caen. Ibrahimovic, Cavani and Lavezzi will start as the front three. Blaise Matuidi will probably be fit for a start. Verratti and Thiago Motta will be the other midfielders. Ex Chelsea boy David Luiz will partner Thiago Silva in central defense, with Van der Wiel and Maxwell to play as full backs. Sirigu will start in goal.
PSG VS CHELSEA: FORM GUIDE
Chelsea lead the table in the Premier League while they made it into the last 16 of the Champions League as group toppers. With most players now available to play, Chelsea will start the match as favourites, though the 3-1 defeat in Paris last season will remind them that they can not take the match lightly. PSG are unbeaten at home in the Champions League in the last 32 matches, and Chelsea will be looking to end that streak.
PSG are in a serious injury crisis, and this has put pressure on Laurent Blanc. Although PSG still have an impressive starting lineup, their bench will certainly lack depth. PSG sit third in the Ligue 1 table but are just 2 points away from the toppers Lyon. During the group stages, PSG beat FC Barcelona 3-2, and that goes to show their strength at home. But Chelsea will be a tough test for them and a huge obstacle in the way of their European ambitions.
