Jose Mourinho set to sign four year contract extension with Chelsea
According to reports from English Tabloid Times, Jose Mourinho is in line to sign a four-year contract extension at Chelsea. The Portuguese still has two years remaining in his contract but the Blues hierarchy is desperate to secure his long-term future with the club.
Mourinho had earlier expressed his willingness to commit to the London club beyond his present deal but given that Chelsea have to tackle a busy week involving three matches in a week in the Premier League, Champions League and Capital One Cup, talks have been put on hold till the end of the season.
Any increase on his existing annual salary of £8.5m is set to be discussed in the summer and it is subject to the Special One winning at least one trophy come at the end of the season. Mourinho had earlier failed to win any sort of silverware last term but the club are delighted that they are in pole position to secure the Premier League title this season as of now.
Chelsea had earlier secured the services of Eden Hazard on a five-and-a-half year contract which was worth £10m annually last week. Thus view tying down Mourinho is their next big task. The report also states that the Special One’s relation with club owner Roman Abramovich is much better than the former’s first spell in the highest echelons of English Football. Should Mourinho sign the contract extension, Chelsea will then look to offer captain John Terry a new deal in the summer.
