Chelsea 1-0 Everton: Best Chelsea Player Analysis
It was Chelsea’s do or die attitude that helped them in securing all three points versus Everton. It was a very tight game as Everton played with a defensive mindset but Chelsea attacked with their hearts out. Chelsea almost broke the deadlock with a Matic goal but it was ruled offside because of Ivanovic. But thanks to Willian who finally scored a deflected winner and gave all three points to Chelsea, the Blues maintain their 7 points lead. This was one of those cases where the whole squad gave top notch performance including Willian , Hazard, Zouma, Matic and Cech but it was Willian who came out on top and won the man of the match.
Let us now do a brief analysis of Willian’s yesterday’s performance.
This time Willian commenced the game with his potential replacement Cuadrado. However, the Colombian played wide and Willian was in the advanced playmaking spot. Because of this, Willian had the freedom to roam around anywhere on the pitch and also added more fluidity in the game. As always he was also very hard working and was all over the pitch. He contributed in attack as well as defense, created many chances, took some mind blowing shots on goal, delivered many fruitful crosses, his passing was pin point, tackles were perfectly timed and his dribbles were also very fluid.
Last night what we saw was a better version of Willian. One that was more creative and accurate which was demonstrated by his passing as his success rate was 95%. That is only 3 out of his 53 attempted passes went in the wrong direction, he also delivered 8 successful long balls, created 3 chances, attempted 10 crosses and last but not the least sealed the deal by scoring the winner in the 89th minute.
Here’s the heat map of Willian from yesterday’s game.
Defensively he was very sound and industrious but his contribution was without any end product but this is understandable by the nature of this game as Chelsea’s ultra attacking mode was turned on. Willian made 2 unsuccessful tackles, blocked one shot, was good in air as he won 40% of his aerial duels all he had to do in defense was just to collect the cleared ball and inaugurate a counter attack and he was successful at it.
Overall it was a world class performance by the Brazilian and he also showed why he deserves to start each and every game for Chelsea. If this level of performance is continued we can expect big things from Willian now.
