Chelsea have contacted Lionel Messi’s father to discuss a summer transfer to Stamford Bridge, according to RAC 1.
The radio station claims executives from the Premier League club have been alerted to the player’s situation at Barcelona, where his relationship with coach Luis Enrique has hit an all-time low following his demotion to the bench for Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Real Sociedad.
As a result, Messi’s father Jorge has been sounded out by the Blues and a report in Sport also insists the Londoners would be willing to pay the buyout clause in the Argentine star’s contract, understood to be €250m.
Chelsea have in all likelihood been in contact with Messi’s representatives. And it is not too far a stretch to assume that Chelsea have been told that he is unhappy at the moment. However, if this move is to go through then Messi would have to come out and explicitly say that he wanted to leave the club. No Barcelona president would want to be tarnished as the man who let Messi leave the club. If Messi leaves it will have to have been on his say so.
