Folks, get ready for some action on the first day of the New Year, as League leaders Chelsea take on Tottenham Hotspurs at White Hart Lane in what promises to be an amazing game of football.
Am sure you all spent your New Year partying, dancing and drinking beers but seriously, get over your hangover to catch the Premier League action on Friday!
Jose Mourinho’s side has had a wonderful start to this season and they would look to continue their winning momentum going into 2015. After a disappointing draw against Southampton, the manager wouldn’t settle for anything less than a win and this is how he is expected to line-up against the Spurs:
GK – THIBAUT COURTOIS
The Belgian gave a good performance against the Saints with his commanding presence in our penalty area. He definitely starts tomorrow.
CB – JOHN TERRY and GARY CAHILL
John Terry will look to put his bad performance against Southampton behind as the best Premier League duo will start yet again against the Mauricio Pochettino’s side on Friday. Harry Kane starting as the lone Central Forward for Spurs is no slouch either as both Cahill and Terry will be on their heels and aim for another clean sheet.
LB – FILIPE LUIS
Filipe Luis was brilliant going forward against the Saints and with Spurs not so potent on the wings, Mourinho might consider starting the Brazilian over Azpilicueta yet again to provide that width from the left.
RB – BRANISLAV IVANOVIC
Ivanovic will have to be extra alert on the right as he comes up against Christian Eriksen tomorrow. Quite a battle we have got on our hands!
CM – NEMANJA MATIC and CESC FABREGAS
No questions here as the duo would start in the middle of the pitch. With Tottenham not so heavy in the middle, there’s no reason for Mourinho to introduce Mikel into the pivot, probably why Matic and Fabregas starts alongside each other tomorrow.
LW – EDEN HAZARD
The goalscorer and destroyer of Spurs when we met them last month is set to start yet again, this time at White Hart Lane!
RW – WILLIAN
Andre Schurrle was disappointing, to say the least, against Southampton, which means Willian will be preferred ahead of the German with a job to cause trouble in front, as well as, track back and close down Eriksen.
CAM – OSCAR
The Brazilian didn’t feature in our draw against the Saints due to an illness, but Oscar is definitely fit and ready to take on the Spurs on New Year!
STRIKER – DIEGO COSTA
Costa couldn’t feature against Spurs at Stamford Bridge because he was suspended. But, the Striker is more than ready enough to cause havoc against Vertonghen and co. at White Hart Lane. A hat-trick on the card, me thinks!
