Confirmed: Middlesbrough accomplished Kalas’ loan move!
Tomas Kalas has had a horrible loan spell so far at FC Koln. Since it was announced in the summer that Kalas will spend the 2014/2015 season on loan at the Bundesliga club, a lot of fans expected him to do well and maybe even replace John Terry at the back in the near future.
But, with zero starts and just a few appearance on the bench in the first half of the season, the young Czech Republic player has grown frustrated with life in Germany and bewildered with the lack of playing time.
According to Tomas Kalas:
“At first they were happy with my performances but then I didn’t play any game. I don’t know what went wrong.”
Lack of playing time at such a young age can impede the development of any player and that’s why Chelsea has acted accordingly to terminate his loan spell at Koln. Chelsea wanted to send him back to the Championship where he can ply his trade on a regular basis.
Middlesbrough seems to be the preferred destination for the Kalas, given Aitor Karanka’s Mourinho link. Patrick Bamford and Kenneth Omeruo are already a regular member of Karanka’s side and apparently Kalas is already training with the first team and manager seems to appreciate the defender’s talent.
Let’s hear it straight from the manager:
“I know him (Kalas) and I wanted him one year ago when I came here, I think he will train with us tomorrow and when everything is completed he can play for Middlesbrough. The main thing is the player is here and the player wants to be here. He is a central defender and right-back. I know him because since I came here I have want him, but I couldn’t get him until now. He’s a player who I have known for a long time and I am pleased he is here.” (Source – Gazette live and Dailymail)
After the hideous loan spell in Bundesliga, this could be the golden opportunity for Kalas to start week in week out for a Championship side, who are fighting hard for promotion.
Kalas got a rare start for Chelsea last season against Liverpool, where he looked calm and composed. The Czech star would be hoping to impress Jose Mourinho once again with some consistent showing under Karanka if he wishes to have a chance in the first team once the “Capitano” decides to hang his boot.
Middlesbrough FC confirmed on January 09, 2015 about the loan spell on Twitter.com.
