It’s time to get back to the winning ways!
We have reached the halfway mark of the Premier League and while things looked assured at the start of the season for the Blues, we have shot ourselves in our foot through a combination of busy schedule, fatigue and some questionable referring, resulting in us being level on points with Manchester City.
Now with AFCON coming up, our closest rivals are a bit thin in their depth department, meaning, it’s a golden opportunity for us to extend our lead. And it all starts with Magpies visiting us at Stamford Bridge tomorrow. And oh! there’s also a small case of revenge!
With our squad fully fit, here’s how Jose Mourinho is expected to start tomorrow:
GK – THIBAUT COURTOIS
Last time he started, Courtois let in 5 goals, but it would be harsh and unfair to criticize him alone as our defense was in shamble. He starts tomorrow.
CB – JOHN TERRY and GARY CAHILL
As I said our defense was in shamble and both of our CB’s were one of the major reasons for that humiliating defeat. Still, one off game doesn’t make them bad and with a week of rest under their belt, we are sure both the Englishmen would be raring to go against the Magpies on Saturday.
LB – CESAR AZPILICUETA
The Spaniard has been brilliant of late but then again, when isn’t he? Although, Filipe Luis hasn’t put a foot wrong either, but Mourinho might go with Azpi over the Brazilian, to control the pacy Sissoko on the wings tomorrow.
RB – BRANISLAV IVANOVIC
Again, a player who had a brilliant start to the season but faded away a bit since then. The Serbian was horrible against Tottenham and we expect him to be back to his best against Newcastle after a good week of rest.
CM – NEMANJA MATIC and CESC FABREGAS
The preferred pair are expected to be back on the pitch alongside each other although, there is a case of Mourinho starting Ramires alongside Matic while Fab slots in the No. 10 spot. But, with Magpies not so heavy in the middle, this pairing makes more sense going forward tomorrow.
LW – EDEN HAZARD
“Poetry in motion”, that’s how I feel every time I see the little Belgian running away with the ball, rounding off countless defenders like school kids while destroying any fullback, unfortunate enough to come up against him. And oh, he starts!
RW – WILLIAN
Arguably our soft spot. Schurrle has been horrible, Salah non-existent and it’s been Willian who has shown any signs of decency at RW. The Brazilian is no doubt a hard-worker, giving everything on the pitch, but his lack of goals and creativity has cost us a bit. Still, our only decent option, he starts!
CAM – OSCAR
I am not sure what’s wrong with him. He performs exceptionally in the first half of the season but fades away in the second half, as has been evident in the last couple of years. Fatigue ain’t the problem here as he is the most rested of all our AM’s. We just hope he gets his form back tomorrow, if he does start.
STRIKER – DIEGO COSTA
Remy and Drogba have proved to be the able backup, but it’s Diego Costa who is the undisputed first choice Striker and he starts tomorrow.
