Chelsea vs Manchester City – Blues’ Possible Starting Eleven

The top two teams in the PL, both not in their best of forms, both missing their key players and both badly in need for a win to redeem themselves from recent bad results will be up against each other, come Saturday, at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea has Diego Costa suspended because everybody is jealous of us while Cesc Fabregas might not be involved due to a hamstring injury. Manchester City has their best player and the new signing, Yaya Toure, and Wilfried Bony respectively, out on national duty while Nasri is injured. Being 5 points behind Chelsea, a win is must for the Citizens if they wish to keep their Title hopes alive.

As for Mourinho, the Portuguese will most probably be satisfied with a draw. Although a win would probably see us en route to the title. Keeping that in mind here’s how we think the manager might start against the Citizens tomorrow:

The Belgian has shown his true colors in Blue in the last few matches making some near impossible saves and firmly registering himself as one of the best in the world. He starts tomorrow.

Kurt Zouma was impressive against the Merseyside club in the midweek but given it’s Manchester City, Mourinho would probably look to use all the experience he can get, which means starting Cahill alongside Terry. The duo would be up against Sergio Aguero and with Chelsea possibly reverting to a low block, the Englishmen should be able to contain the Argentine!

With Filipe Luis injured, Cesar Azpilicueta is the obvious starter in the Left Back spot. The Spaniard will look to contain the pacy Jesus Navas when he starts tomorrow.

The Serbian looked to have carried a knock during the extra time of the Liverpool fixture but with Luis already injured, even a less than 100% Ivanovic will get a nod at the RB. He also starts tomorrow.

Even with a fit Fabregas, Mourinho would definitely opt for some steel alongside Matic as we would be up against a combo of Fernando and Fernandinho which means some intense physical battle in the middle of the pitch. Remember the game in Etihad?

In the absence of Costa, this man will have to be at his very best if we hope to pose a significant goal scoring danger in City’s defense. Watching Pablo Zabaleta destroyed in the wings though, will be extra sweet!

With Schurrle most likely gone and Salah not good enough, Willian is the obvious choice in the Right Wing as the Brazilian’s ability to press consistently and help out in defense could prove vital in the context of this game.

This fixture is going to be filled with Brazilians and most likely in the absence of Fabregas, Oscar will have to do the bulk of job for Chelsea which include pressing intensely, dropping deep to help out his DM’S, creating chances et al. Though, if Fabregas does get fit to play this fixture, we will probably see the Brazilian dropped in favor of the Spaniard.

Loic Remy is set to start at the Bridge tomorrow or so do we hope. After watching Didier perform against Bradford, Remy deserves to be given a chance in the lone forward role as his speed could cause problems to Kompany and Mangala in the City’s defense.
