Say bye-bye to Quadruple folks! But a win against the Merseyside club tomorrow, and there’s still some hope for a treble!
After a humiliating (frankly, I could use so many words to describe that performance but let’s leave it at that!) defeat against Bradford City which saw us kicked out of the FA Cup along with our Quadruple chances, it’s time to resurge ourselves when we line-up against Liverpool tomorrow.
Fans have always complained about Mourinho’s “lack of rotation” policy but after watching our weekend’s performance, I don’t think many fans would cry about that! And I am pretty sure that Mourinho won’t be entertaining the idea of wholesale changes either, which brings us to the possible starting eleven of the Blues tomorrow.
After a 1-1 draw at Anfield last week, a win is the only way to reach the finals of the Capital One Cup and this is how we are expected to start tomorrow:
GK – THIBAUT COURTOIS
There’s no way Thibaut Courtois isn’t starting tomorrow ahead of Petr Cech. The Belgian made some impossible saves against Liverpool at Anfield last week and he starts tomorrow ahead of the Czech star!
CB – JOHN TERRY and GARY CAHILL
Our usual CB partnership of Terry and Cahill will probably start at the back as Mourinho strictly means business this time around! This isn’t to say that Zouma was at fault for our FA Cup exit, but Mourinho would surely prefer experience over youth tomorrow.
LB – CESAR AZPILICUETA
Azpilicueta wasn’t his usual self against the League two side and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Luis starting over the Spaniard but given the pace of Sterling and Markovic on the wings, Mourinho might prefer Azpilicueta over the Brazilian.
RB – BRANISLAV IVANOVIC
Time for the Serbian to show his class when he starts against Liverpool tomorrow. If he can continue his Swansea form, things might get easier for Mourinho and Co. against Rodger’s side.
CM – NEMANJA MATIC and RAMIRES
Ramires was our bright spot in our loss to Bradford City last week. Although, starting Fabregas alongside Matic seems the most obvious option, but Mourinho might wanna go with this combination as Fabregas slots into the No.10 spot.
LW – EDEN HAZARD
If we still wish for a treble winning season, this guy has to be on his very best on the Left-Wing. The Belgian certainly starts tomorrow!
RW – WILLIAN
Our only decent option on the Right-Wing the Brazilian starts against Liverpool tomorrow. End of the Chelsea career for Salah/Schurrle?
CAM – CESC FABREGAS
With Ramires probably slotting alongside Matic, the Spaniard will have a go at the No. 10 spot ahead of Oscar.
STRIKER – DIEGO COSTA
Our most prolific goal-scorer this season, Diego Costa will surely start as the lone forward as he goes up against Martin Skrtel and Co. A hat-trick, please?
