It is that time of the year when the fixtures are coming thick and fast. Jose Mourinho says he loves this period and is relishing the challenge of such fixture congestion.
It had been an odd season for Spurs before they played Chelsea at White Hart Lane yesterday. They have lost very winnable games at home and won daunting looking away fixtures. It proves the fact that Spurs are an excellent counter-attacking side and find it difficult to take the initiative in games. However, it was completely a different story yesterday.
Against Chelsea they were successful in playing the counter attacking style at home and Harry Kane was in the form of his life. He gave a run around to the Chelsea defenders. Tottenham’s recent form suggested that they were not such an easy nut to crack for the Blues. The goals towards the end saved our face, but Chelsea needs to rebuild the momentum going into some very important fixtures.
Let us take a look at few of them and predict the results:
4th January 2015 Watford (Home) – FA Cup:
Watford has been on a run of 4 wins out of 5 in December and will be hoping for an upset. However, in spite of Chelsea having a clean bill of health, the bench would be given game time in the FA Cup. Chelsea has too much strength in depth and the fact that we are playing at Bridge; this fixture should not have too much drama and would result in a routine win for Chelsea.
Prediction = Chelsea 2 – 0 Watford
10th January 2015 Newcastle United (Home) – Premier League:
Newcastle have had a very topsy-turvy season with some good results and some not so good ones. The managerial situation is certainly going to play a part in this fixture. However, with managerial changes one can never really predict how a team reacts. Nonetheless, Chelsea at home will be strong with the important first teamers rested in midweek in the FA Cup game.
Prediction = Chelsea 3 – 1 Newcastle United
17th January 2015 Swansea City (Away) – Premier League:
One of the season’s surprise starters, Swansea had tapered off and are currently comfortable in the top half of the table. Swansea has always been a bogey team for Chelsea and players like Sigurdsson will cause problems. These games are the ones that can define a season and getting result here would really go a long way in proving that Chelsea are certainly on course to the Premier League title.
Prediction = Swansea City 1 – 2 Chelsea
