We have been flying high in all the competitions this season. With the way we have been playing lately, the fans can’t stop to think about the possible Quadruple this season. Although, it would be quite pre-mature to say anything so early, but we can dream, right?
So keeping that in mind, Blues travel to Derbyshire to square up against the Championship side Derby County in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup. Steve McClaren’s side are having a brilliant season, sitting at third position in the Championship, just a point behind the leader.
Given the home side’s impressive form, and a 5 day gap between this game and the next PL fixture, Jose Mourinho isn’t expected to make a wholesale of changes as he did against Shrewsbury, but this would be a good chance for few of the fringe players to make their mark tomorrow.
Here’s how the boss is expected to line-up against the Championship side:
GK – PETR CECH
Courtois suffered a minor injury before the Hull City game and the manager wouldn’t want to risk the Belgian more so, in such a busy schedule which means Petr Cech might get the nod over the Belgian.
CB – JOHN TERRY and KURT ZOUMA
Gary Cahill hasn’t been in the best of forms for some time and given the long gap between this game and the next fixture, we could possibly see John Terry starting alongside the young and impressive Kurt Zouma.
LB – FILIPE LUIS
The Brazilian has started the last two fixtures for the Blues and has looked impressive on the attacking front. With the home side probably playing with a narrow defense, Luis might be needed to provide that extra width on the wings.
RB – BRANISLAV IVANOVIC
Knowing Mourinho, he would probably start the Serbian on the RB for similar reasons to provide width from the wings and break down the home side defense.
CM – NEMANJA MATIC and CESC FAREGAS
Jose Mourinho has promised to go with the strongest side possible for this fixture which means the dynamic midfield duo of Matic and Fabregas would be back in action tonight.
LW – MOHAMMED SALAH
It’s a toss up between Hazard and Salah, but Egyptian might get the nod over the Belgian after his good showings against Sporting Lisbon.
RW – ANDRE SCHURRLE
The German is definitely getting back to his best and will have another opportunity to make his mark on the side.
CAM – OSCAR
Oscar has practically owned the No. 10 position for the Blues and the Brazilian is set to start tonight against the Championship side.
STRIKER – DIEGO COSTA
According to the boss, Diego Costa requires game time to improve his conditioning which means the Spaniard might start over Remy and Drogba against Derby County.
