Chelsea won 0-2 in a cold windy night at the Britannia Stadium versus Stoke City. The whole squad was tested by the physically approached Stoke City, but the Blues looked unbeatable. They came with a mindset to beat the opponent on the pitch.
Every Chelsea player had his natural game and was impressive.
Thibaut Courtois: Rating – 8.0/10
Courtois showed character and was in top form throughout the game. Stopped many shots both from long and close range, cleared and caught every cross and corner. It was a well-deserved clean sheet for him.
Branislav Ivanovic: Rating – 7.0/10
Branislav had a good game too. He contributed in attack as well as defense. His physicality was tested in many ways and he did a great job.
John Terry: Rating – 9.0/10
The Captain scored an early header in the 95th second on Fabregas’ corner. He was tested in many different ways, but won every physical battle and was one of the main reason behind this well earned clean sheet. He made more than 8 perfect clearances.
Gary Cahill: Rating – 8.0/10
Just like Terry, Cahill was unbeatable too. He had an excellent chemistry with John throughout the game. He cleared almost every corner and made more than 6 clearances.
Cesar Azpilicueta: Rating – 7.0/10
Azpi had a wonderful game. He was able to cover Hazard, so as to help him push forward and do his things. He well dominated Jerome Walters in the physical game.
John Obi Mikel: Rating – 7.0/10
Mikel’s passing was not top class, but he did a very good shielding job. He was always on the right place, at the right time and made many important interceptions and blocked many potential shots.
Nemanja Matic: Rating – 9.5/10 (MOTM)
Another mesmerizing performance by Matic, as he was all over the pitch and on top of opposition players all the time, creating pressure. It was a man versus boys situation for him, as none of the Stoke players were successful in outmuscling him. He contributed in defensive as well as attacking third.
Willian: Rating – 7.0/10
Willian was very good in the game. He never failed to track back the ball and had beautiful partnership with Ivanovic too. He did a great job in dispossessing the ball from opposition.
Cesc Fabregas: Rating – 8.0/10
He scored one and assisted one goal and did what he is good at, throughout the game. He constructed chances to score goals and was also noticeable in the defense.
Eden Hazard: Rating – 8.0/10
Taking Hazard’s physicality into consideration, it wasn’t a piece of cake for him this evening. He was frequently fouled by Stoke players. He still managed to create multiple chances and assisted a fabulous goal to Fabregas.
Diego Costa: Rating – 8.0/10
Costa missed a golden chance to score, but was a threat for Stoke defenders. He played the trademark Diego Costa game of bullying and beating the opposition. Every chance which was created for him was taken well, however was unfortunate enough to not get one across the keeper.
Andre Schurrle: Rating – 6.5/10
He came on as a substitute for Willian in the 80th minute. His performance was decent as he tried his luck on the post on few occasions.
