It’s that time of the season when unpredictability is at its peak. The big clubs drop points, bottom half teams produce huge upsets and as they say the team leading in January more often than not goes on to win the title.
So let’s check out Chelsea’s fixtures in the near future and predict the results depending upon the given circumstances.
Chelsea’s dominance continues to roll on at the top of the Premier League, thanks to another incredibly impressive win at Bridge against Tottenham Hotspur. However, the Blues have few tricky fixtures leading up to January and it’s important that the league leaders get points in these places. Grabbing points in away games in tough situations against tough sides is important for the league leaders to win the title. It’s a sign of champions. Here are some predictions of the fixtures:
6th December Newcastle United (Away) – Barclay’s Premier League
Newcastle has seen a major upturn in form. They have lost a game at West Ham – Matchday 13 and drew against Burnley at Turf Moor – Matchday 14. They have been dropping recently. Newcastle has been one of the bogie teams for Chelsea and at St James’s Park it will be one of best battles Chelsea will have this season. Considering their performance against Tottenham, Liverpool, West Brom and QPR, where they grabbed all three points in all the fixtures, they might give a tough time to the Londoners. It is a possibility that the Chelsea juggernaut might come unstruck in this fixture. In spite of this & the form we are playing; Chelsea surely going to win this match.
Prediction = Newcastle 1 – Chelsea 2
10th December Sporting Lisbon (Home) – UEFA Champions League
The magnificent 5 – 0 away win at Schalke has assured Chelsea a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League and hence this is a bit of dead rubber. It is given that a lot of the first team stars will be rested and non-starters might get some game time like Schurrle, Salah, Mikel, Luis and Zouma. There is too much quality there and Chelsea should see the group stages out with a comfortable win, especially since it’s at Stamford Bridge.
Prediction = Chelsea 3 – Sporting Lisbon 1
13th December Hull City (Home) – Barclay’s Premier League
Jose Mourinho is a great man manager. He will be relishing the fact that the fixtures are coming thick and fast around this time of the year. He would have cleverly managed his squad for most of his first team starts to be fit for this game after the final game of the Champions League. Hull has been taking points away at Liverpool and Arsenal, but their recent form has been abysmal. Chelsea has a lot of quality in depth, to deal with injuries and come away with a comfortable victory at Home.
Prediction = Chelsea 2 – Hull City 0
16th December Derby County (Away) – Capital One Cup
Derby is top of the table in the Championship and one of the favorites to return to the Premier League next season. They have had some bad away games, however are formidable at home. This certainly won’t be a walk in the park for the Blues. Chelsea will again mostly play the players that have had less game time, but knowing Mourinho, we shouldn’t expect a second string side. He will play a team that will be good enough to beat most oppositions. This is a tough away game, but Chelsea can move forward if there are not too many injury concerns.
Prediction = Derby County 1 – Chelsea 2
