Chelsea’s current midfield is debatably the best in the world, with the likes of Nemanja Matic, Fabregas, Oscar, Ramires, Mikel, etc. And now, to make things even better and to make the midfield deadlier, Mourinho is willing to add another talented midfielder in his squad.
As per Metro.co.uk reports via Ghanaian Media, the Blues are interested in Juventus’ utility midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah as the top target for the January transfer window. Let us understand Asamoah’s game and analyse whether his addition to the ‘already world-class’ midfield will be a beneficial move for Chelsea.
Kwadwo is a 26-year-old Ghanaian midfielder who currently plays for the Italian giants Juventus. Being an all-round midfielder, he is comfortable in almost every midfield position, whether it be attacking or defensive midfield. He also plays on both the flanks, as well as a left wing back.
To be a versatile footballer, one should have all the skills required to play various roles for the team; Asamoah possesses all of them. He is a hard working player who is seen in both attacking and defensive third. His efforts in the defensive area are noticeable, as he makes 3 tackles and 1.4 clearances per game. He is a good observer of the game and manages more than 1.5 interceptions per game.
His contribution to the attack is noticeable too. He plays as a deep-lying playmaker and creates more than 1 potential chance per game. He is also an excellent dribbler who makes more than 3 dribbles per game.
As we can see, there are no significant weaknesses this player has, but sometimes he easily gets provoked and commits a foul. Given the strictness in the Premier League, he will have to see a lot of cards coming his way.
Taking all this into account, Asamoah will be a good addition to Chelsea and will put either Ramires’ or Mikel’s spot in jeopardy. According to Ghanasoccernet.com, Chelsea have made a £24 million bid for this chap.
Everything was on track until Juventus announced after their win in Champions League over Olympiacos, that Asamoah will be going under a knee surgery and will be out for almost four months.
Official statement by juventus.com:
“While his team-mates were out training, Kwadwo Asamoah was in Barcelona to undergo arthroscopic surgery designed to fix torn cartilage in his left knee. Operated on by Dr. Cugat and accompanied by club doctor Causarano, the Ghanaian is expected to return to competitive action within three to four months.”
Now, neither Jose nor Chelsea would want to invest £24 million for a player who won’t be available until April 2015. However, even if he wasn’t injured, the sum mentioned in the rumours for his transfer is huge, with all the talent in midfield at Chelsea’s armory already available. According to me, even this rumour will be discarded by Chelsea and club officials in near future.
Jose is also keeping an eye on other midfielders with similar abilities and qualities, Paul Pogba being one of them on Jose’s radar.
However, everyone of us know who the Boss is! As we always say, only Mourinho can decipher his mind games and tactics, he will act accordingly and play his moves. Rest assured, Roman with all his monetary support and we fans are always with the Special One!
