With the change in Chelsea’s playing style this season, players like Oscar and Willian have improved significantly. Players like Costa, Hazard, and Fabregas have probably reached the prime of their careers. This is Chelsea’s attack for the season, unstoppable and fluent!
And threatening enough to make Arsene Wenger already give up all hopes, and admit that this title is for the Blues’ to lose. Wait! There is a name missing, right? The man who scored 9 goals last season for the Blues with 1 assist, and the mastermind behind Germany’s World Cup winning goal; Yes, you know who we are talking about. It’s Andre Schurrle.
After an impressive performance in the World Cup, the German has failed to prove his world champion prowess when it comes to playing for Chelsea. And not surprisingly, he is reported to be on sale this January, with Borussia Dortmund showing huge interest and are said to be leading the race to sign him. Chelsea, on the other hand, are reportedly planning to land Dortmund’s star man Marco Reus at the Stamford Bridge in exchange for Schurrle. Will Schurrle Transfer in January ? So should we let him go? Or will it be a mistake?
Even though Schurrle is not good enough to make to it to the starting 11 at the moment, he can be a vital substitute in the matches to come this season. In the tough winter fixtures when most Premier League clubs are plagued with injuries, a versatile forward like Schurrle will provide a good backup option on the bench. From a false number 9 to an assist maker, Schurrle has the ability to do it all.
He may not be as talented as Hazard or Oscar, but his ability to penetrate into the opposition’s defence can make his team clinch an important goal at the dying minutes. The best example would be the goal that shattered Argentina’s World Cup dreams in the final, when Schurrle made an inch perfect cross inside the penalty box and Mario Gotze made no mistake to smash the ball in. And not to forget, the 1st Chelsea goal in the 2-0 win over PSG, in the 2nd leg of Champions League quarterfinals last season.
One of Schurrle’s key assets, is said to be his effective long-distance sprinting on the counter attack and his ability to shoot from a long distance, something which no other player seems to have with excellence after the legendary Frank Lampard.
The 24 year old forward has not yet complained about the amount of game time he gets and wants to stay at the club. There have been no personal issues with Mourinho as well, so Schurrle will surely give his best for the team and work according to Mourinho’s plans, unlike the Mario Balotelli situation at Liverpool right now! And who is to say that Schurrle can’t get back to his form?
The Man of The Match in Chelsea’s famous 6-0 drubbing of Arsenal last season can surely return to his match-winning form. The only thing he needs is time. It will be good if Chelsea wait and give a chance to Schurrle until the summer. After all, the January transfer window is mostly about taking decisions in a hurry and then regretting it later. Also, if Chelsea are so desperate to sign Marco Reus, they can get him in summer as well in an exchange with Schurrle with many reports saying that the player is set to resist any move away from Dortmund till the end of the season.
Many fans have been calling the German’s move away from the Bridge in January as ‘crazy’. Schurrle will definitely improve with more than half of the season still remaining, and surely not get as worse as was the situation with Fernando Torres. Even though he is not regularly in the Chelsea starting 11, Andre Schurrle is too good a player to let go!
Through this article, we don’t claim whether Reus will be a good signing for Chelsea or not. We simply want to highlight the importance of Andre Schurrle in the squad and if the Blues would regret letting him go in January, throughout the remainder of the season. The views and opinions are completely our own, and our readers are most welcome to comment below what they think about it.
