Chelsea vs Schalke 04 – Possible Starting Eleven

Champions League night is back as Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea travel to Germany to line up against the Bundesliga side Schalke 04, managed by none other than our maiden Champions League triumph hero, Roberto Di Matteo.

There has been a lot of fuss about the Di Matteo vs Mourinho battle, as of late, but the Blues would look to put the sentiments aside, once they line-up against the Bundesliga outfit, as a win would secure our place in the knock-out stages of the Champions League, while a loss, however unlikely it is, will put our hopes in jeopardy.

Talking about form, both the sides come to this fixture with a win under their belt. Di Matteo’s men managed a hard fought 3-2 win against Wolfsburg on Saturday while, Chelsea put up one of their best performances of the season, with a 2-0 home win against West Brom. Considering our busy schedule and the importance of this fixture, this is how the boss is expected to lineup tomorrow:

GK – PETR CECH

As per Mourinho’s rotational policy, Petr Cech might get the nod over Courtois in the Champions League encounter tomorrow. How good is it to have 2 of the best Goalkeepers in our team!

CB – JOHN TERRY and KURT ZOUMA

After 2 weeks of deserved rest, John Terry is up and ready to start 2 games in a week while, Kurt Zouma, on the back of some impressive performances, might get the nod over Gary Cahill to partner the Captain tomorrow.

LB – FILIPE LUIS

Again as per Mourinho’s rotational policy, Azpi gets the nod in the PL games while, the proven and experienced Filipe Luis starts in the Champions League encounters.

RB – BRANISLAV IVANOVIC

Ivanovic starts. Enough said!

CM – NEMANJA MATIC and CESC FABREGAS

There was a shadow of doubt over Fabregas’s fitness before the game against West Brom, but the Spanish playmaker put it all to rest with one of his best performances of the season.

Nemanja Matic has been incredible for the Blues this season and he will partner Fabregas in the middle of the pitch against the Bundesliga side.’

LW – EDEN HAZARD

Schalke beware, for the destroyer of the fullbacks, is in town to conquer the Veltins-Arena, with the breathtaking display of football, that all fans and neutrals have come to admire. The Belgian starts tomorrow.

RW – ANDRE SCHURRLE

Considering all the hope, the fans had from the winger; the German has been a disappointment so far this season. But, given the vulnerability of Schalke on the counter-attacks, Mourinho might want to start the pacy winger ahead of Willian tomorrow.

CAM – OSCAR

Oscar has been nothing short of a revelation with his consistent performances this season and the Brazilian’s ability to interchange positions with Fabregas has been one of the main reason for the Blues’ success. He starts tomorrow.

STRIKER – DIEGO COSTA

There might be a case of Mourinho starting Loic Remy instead of the Spaniard, but given the importance of this fixture, the boss might wanna roll on with one of the best in the world at his position.
