It’s the battle of last two undefeated sides in this Premier League season as the leaders Chelsea host Arsenal this Sunday in the clash of the two great London rivals.
Venue – Stamford Bridge
Date/Time – Sunday 5th Oct 1400 GMT/ 1835 IST
Referee – Martin Atkinson
Arsenal fans are still not able to forget the last season’s scoreline at Stamford Bridge which ended in a humilating 6-0 defeat for the Gunners. The last time these two sides met was Arsene Wenger’s 1000th competitive game in charge of Arsenal and turned out to be his heaviest defeat.
However, this week it’s another landmark for the Frenchman as he steps into his 18th season as Arsenal manager and he is hoping his side will come out with a better result after thier 4-1 knock against Galatasaray mid-week.
However, All eyes will be on Chelsea’s recent signing Cesc Fabregas, who will face his former club expecting some special reception from the away fans. Jose Mourinho has never lost as an opposition manager against Wenger in any competition (W6 D5 L0) and has a better team this season as compared to the team which defeated Arsenal 6-0. As Arsenal was unsuccessful in signing a defensive midfielder this season and are having quite a few injury issues, Wenger has a serious defensive concern when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The league leaders are in a great run of form as they are yet to taste a defeat this season. Jose Mourinho’s men made it five wins from six as they eased past Aston Villa last weekend with a comfortable 3-0 victory. Chelsea have scored with 26% of their shots this season, the best chance conversion in the Premier League.
The Gunners are undefeated in the Premier league so far, managing 4 draws and 2 wins from their first 6 league games and currently in 4th position with 10pts and would like to reduce the points deficit between Arsenal and Chelsea. Arsenal have lost just one of their last 14 Barclays Premier League games since defeat at Stamford Bridge in March.
Team News & Injury News-
In-form Striker Diego Costa has removed any doubt over his fitness saying he will start in the derby.
“Of course I will play Vs.Arsenal. I am certain. I do not see any problem.”
– Diego Costa
Brazillian midfielder Ramires will be a big miss in Chelsea’s midfield who is out with a groin injury while Didier Drogba will also miss the clash with his ankle issue which might bring some smile to Arsenal fans as he has scored 15 goals in 15 appearances against Arsenal in all competitions (including Emirates Cup).
The Gunners are facing a tough task this week as number of key players are out with injury as the likes of Giroud, Debuchy, Ramsey, Walcott, Arteta. Wilshere might be given a start in the midfield.
