22-year old Courtois was the preferred first choice goalkeeper for the Chelsea right from the beginning, taking the place of long-standing Petr Cech.
After spending a three-year spell away from the club on loan with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid, Courtois made his first appearance for the Blues on the first match that the Blues played this season.
Speaking to the Chelsea TV after signing a new contract, he showed his delight saying,
I’m very happy with this new deal, it’s very nice to sign here a contract for five-years.
“It was already sorted out, but now it’s also nice to be here for five more years, and now I can concentrate fully on the games that come. I’m very happy to be back at Chelsea and to play the games.
“I knew what it was like to play at Stamford Bridge, but not as the home team, and now I know what it feels like to play here – and it’s a really great feeling.
“And I just hope that we can win a lot of games and trophies.”
All the best Thibaut Courtois. Make us proud in the next five years.
