Gary Cahill is the new English vice-captain after successfully captaining the side in the last two victories in the past week.
After the departure of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard after this summer’s World Cup, the England manager had a crucial job of choosing captain and vice-captain in his hands.
Wayne Rooney was confirmed as captain ahead of the friendly victory over Norway, and gary Cahill has been given the reponsibility of the vice-captain.
‘It was in training after the first game,’ reports the central defender. ‘He decided and just pulled me to one side and let me know. Of course I was grateful and honoured.
‘I just look forward to playing for England, with that added bonus now of maybe being captain one day if needed or if Wayne comes off or is unavailable.
‘It’s a massive honour,’ continues Cahill. ‘Even just to pull on an England shirt and play for England is a huge honour, but to have the added bonus of being vice-captain is amazing.
