Lewis Baker is the new England U20s captain for the game against Romania that will be played on Friday – and he says he is excited to have been handed the captain’s armband.
The Chelsea midfielder had a great last season and scored 23 goals for the Chelsea Football Club on the way to the U21 Premier League crown – including the spectacular goal in the final against Manchester United.
Head coach Aidy Boothroyd has handed Baker the captain’s armband as the team prepares to take on Romania on Friday.
“The manager told me a little bit earlier today,” he said. “It’s a great achievement and it’s something I’m very proud to do.
“When I lead my country out it will be an amazing feeling. Although I’ve worn the armband before, it was after the starting captain was substituted so it will be the first time I have ever done that with an England team.
