When Chelsea mauled city rivals, Arsenil, 6-nil at Stamford Bridge last season in the Premier League, Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was cooling his heels (and butt) with Arsene Wenger, ever shoulder-to-shoulder with Steve Bould – his rumoured lined-up successor – and the mandatory 6 other hapless Gooners on the plush Away Team bench the whole time the blitz job lasted.
Maybe he thought he’d have saved the Gooners’ blushes by saving at least one of the quickfire shots Mohamed Salah and co. blasted past his more accomplished compatriot in goal, Wojciech Szcz?sny(jeez, this name…well, thank you Google for helping me out there!); lol, even a disillusioned Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain got everyone gobsmacked that day and showed the well-beat Szcz?sny just how it’s done by attempting and saving one!
Well, the Pole has since had enough of the failures at N5 and this summer left for Wales where he’s helping Gary Monk’s Swansea City maintain pace with us at the top of the table, and has only conceded a solitary goal which is such an enviable showing I’m sure leaves a certain Thibaut Courtois green with envy.
Anyway, Lukasz has been talking tough pre-match as they visit us this Saturday with the 29-year-old remarking:
“It’s a big game to enjoy, not to fear,” the Polish stopper
“Playing away at Chelsea is always difficult, but we don’t have to be afraid of anyone.
“We went to Old Trafford and won on the opening day of the
season so we know we can compete with the best teams.
“If we keep our discipline and take our chances the way we
have been then anything is possible.”
Uhmm son, anything is indeed possible…including another Arsenal-ish whitewash, no?
Well bring it on already!
