Chelsea are looking to extend their unbeaten run in the English Premier League this weekend as they face Aston villa at home this Saturday.
The blues suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to the villa side away last season which hurt their title winning chances.
Meanwhile Paul Lambert’s Villa side tasted their first defeat of this seasons league campaign against Arsenal last weekend but the manager is keen to adopt a pragmatic approach against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s 100% win record to this season’s Premier League campaign was broken by our club legend Frank Lampard at Etihad stadium last Sunday where Chelsea came out with a draw but Jose Mourinho’s side are still currently sitting at the top of the table with 13 points from 5 games 3 points clear over second placed Southampton and third placed Aston Villa who are both on 10 points.
Villa made a flying start to their league campaign with 3 wins from first 4 matches in premier league including a win against Liverpool but eventually lost to Arsenal last week which saw them drop to 3rd place on the table. Villa are facing a tough run of fixtures this month, which saw them going to Anfield and came with a victory. Despite the weekend defeat, Lambert says Villa are in a strong position heading into tough encounters with Chelsea and Man City.
“I’m not going to sit here and say we’re going to go there and play free-flowing attacking football. You do that and I think you’ll get beaten pretty heavily.”
“But we’ll try and do what we did in the four games before the Arsenal match and we’ll try and get a result.”
“We played good counter-attacking football. We have the players that can do that.”
“We will get chances hopefully on Saturday and when we do, we have to take them.”
–Paul Lambert speaking to the Birmingham Mail
