According to the Express, Spanish newspaper Sport has revealed that Chelsea put a €150 million proposal for Lionel Messi. Can it be true?
Interesting! Very interesting! Chelsea, of all the teams in the world bidding for the player who has never scored against them, is definitely a mega blockbuster story, no denying that. Whether it’s true or not? Well, I don’t know. However, there are things that I know, in fact, we all know. What’s that? Lionel Messi’s record on the English soil, which makes it highly unlikely for any English club, including Chelsea, to be encouraged to put such a high bid forward for the argentine captain.
As per my memory goes (correct me if I am wrong as I couldn’t find exact stats), Messi
is yet to score has scored just one goal on the English soil in an open game (thanks odili for correcting me in the comments). His performance against English clubs overall is also not as compelling as expected from a four times Ballon d’Or winner. Messi averages less than 0.5 goals per match against English teams, contrary to his almost 1 goal per match overall.
Ballon d’Or or not, in no way do I think Mourinho would bid so high for Messi, or want him in the team anyway (even from the team balance perspective).
However, reading the news does get you excited. I always wanted to say this.
Lionel Messi is like iPhone 6. You know it’s not worth it, but still you want to have it.
