Preseason Friendly Preview: Ferencvaros vs Chelsea

As the Premier League season knocks on the door, the players, coaches and all the staff prepare with all their might to get things right. And today Chelsea take on Ferencvaros for their penultimate pre-season friendly in Groupama Arena in Budapest.

All the players have returned from their holidays. Andre Schurrle, Ramires, Willian and Oscar, were the last ones to arrive having had a long world cup, and also participated in the last match. So the whole squad is back and have had atleast one match under their bag.

In the last “triple-threat”, Chelsea scored two unanswered goals against Fenerbache in the first 45 minutes, one by Diego Costa and the other by Branislav Ivanovic. The Costa goal was really something, where he turned and dodged five defenders and slotted the ball coolly past the goalkeeper. The second resulted from a free kick, which Schurrle hit hard and low but was parried by the goalkeeper in front of the onrushing Ivanovic. Also in the first half, Diego Costa managed to survive a horrendous two-footed challenge from Bruno Alves, which would have produced dire consequences had Costa had a foot planted on the turf. It should have been a red but was only given a yellow beacuse it was a friendly. In the second half against Besiktas, Chelsea scored none and conceded one during the last minutes.

This is the first time Chelsea are facing Hungarian opposition, and Jose Mourinho is expected to field a strong starting line-up in order to provide as many playing minutes to the players before their first match against Burnley. The late arrivals will be given more time on the pitch hopefully. Thibaut Courtois, who picked up a slight knock the other day is expected to be okay and will most probably start. Gary Cahill and John Terry, the central defending partnership due to which Chelsea conceded the least amount of goals last season, will again feature at the back, with Azpilicueta and Luis at the full back positions. Matic and Fabregas will command the central midfield, however, Ramires may be given time in order to get his match fitness back. Eden Hazard, Oscar, Andre Schurrle and Costa will make up the rest of the team with Willian hopefully entering the fray later.

Possible Starting Line-up: Courtois; Azpilicueta, Terry, Cahill, Luis; Matic, Fabregas; Hazard, Oscar, Schurrle; Costa.
