Preseason Friendly Preview: Vitesse Arnhem vs Chelsea

Chelsea tonight take on Dutch team Vitesse Arnhem for their fifth friendly of the pre-season. Vitesse and Chelsea have maintained a very close relationship during recent years, with Chelsea sending a lot of their younger players to Vitesse to sharpen their skills in the Eredivisie. This year too youngsters Wallace and Bertrand Traore will be plying their trade in Vitesse.

Against NK Olimpija Ljubljana, Jose Mourinho had selected a team which, apart from a few selections, looked pretty close to what might be the starting line-up for the first match in the Premier League, with both Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas being handed debuts. Diego Costa scored on his debut with Fabregas providing the assist. Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer returned to London on Friday after an injury, so Petr Cech looks favourite to start. All the other players from the last match are available for selection, with Mourinho particularly impressed with youngsters Nathan Ake, Izzy Brown, Lewis Baker, Solanke and Jeremie Boga. Kurt Zouma, who netted the winner in the last match, will probably be handed a start again, alongside Terry or Cahill. New signing Filipe Luis too will be expected to start.

The Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas partnership worked quite well in the centre of the park against NK Olimpija and thus both of them will be expected to start with Lewis Baker in the number 10 role flanked by Salah and Brown. Diego Costa, who looks sharp despite it being pre-season, is expected to start again, having already scored a fine goal in his debut match against Olimpija.
