Branislav Ivanovic might have appeared in more headlines for being bit on the arm by Liverpool forward Luis Suarez (who had duly apologized) than he has for his crisp and no-nonsense defending, but there is absolutely no doubt that he is one of the best right backs in the premier league at the moment.

He keeps a low profile and goes about his job with no fuss at all. Branislav Ivanovic is undoubtedly a very important and performing part of one of the Premier League’s best defenses in the recent years.

He is one of the most consistent and devoted players on the pitch for the Blues, which is evident when one sees that José Mourinho has selected him in 30 outings this season out of the total 32 games that the Chelsea team has played so far.

Branna, as he is fondly called, made his debut for the senior Serbian team in 2005 against Italy in Toronto, Canada. He was fielded as a 77th minute substitute and the Serbs came off the pitch with the scores level at 1-all. He proudly captains the Orlovi and now has his compatriot Nemanja Matic in the Blues team playing alongside him.

Branislav Ivanovic is very strong when it comes to aerial duels and besides that his tackling is very effective making him the complete wing back. This makes him a constant threat for headers and adds to the firepower of the team in set piece situations. Besides, he is one of the most difficult of players to dis-posses off the ball.

Usually one of the most consistent contributors, Ivanovic occasionally lacks concentration. He is a little slower than is the case in the ideal situation, but that is about all the weakness he has in him, making him a good defender.

Career High:

  • Winning the Champions League final in Munich.
  • Winning the Premier League trophy  3 FA Cups with Chelsea.
  • Winning the Serbian Player of The Year consecutively for 2012 and 2013.
  • Man of the match in the UEFA Europa League final.

Career Low:

  • Not many, but it was a disappointment to miss the Champions League final due to suspension.

A versatile and dependable defender because he can play as a center back as well, his consistent performances almost guarantee him a starting spot in every game.
